Sri Krishna and Balarama take the calves for grazing; Redemption of Vatsasura

Sri Narada says:- King! Listening to Sri Sannand, the noble-minded King Nand and all the Gopas were very pleased and started preparing to go to Vrindavan. Along with Yashoda, Rohini, and the entire population of Gopas and Gopis, horses, chariots, and gallant men from Vipramandal, they started their journey to Vrindavan. The decorated and most intelligent King Nand along with his two sons, Balaram and Sri Krishna, climbed on a chariot. With them, herds of cows were also present. Elderly people, boys, and servants along with many people were moving along. At the time of travel, the sound of conches and the chattering of people could be heard. Many singers were singing the glory of King Nand. Gopa Vrishabhanuvar sitting on an elephant with his wife and holding his daughter Radha, listening to the singing of the glory and along with the melodious sound of drums, rhythm of veena and flutes went to Vrindavan. With him also there were many Gopas and herds of cows. Nand, Upanand, and all six Vrishabhanus, also along with their circle of companions went to Vrindavan. All the Gopas along with their servants after entering Vrindavan built their own places and began living here and there. Vrishabhanu built a city called Vrishabhanupur(Barsana) which was spread over an area of four yojanas and was in the form of a citadel. Trenches were constructed on all it's four sides. That citadel had seven entrances. There was a vast meeting place in the citadel. Many lakes were adding to the beauty of the place.  Many roads were constructed in the city. One thousand thickets were enhancing the grace of the place.

Sri Krishna, playing and roaming and roaming about in Nandnagar and Vrishabhanupur was making the love of Gopikas grow. After a few days along with other gopas, the attractive Balaram and Sri Krishna began grazing calves in Vrindavan. These two boys along with other cowherd boys went near the outskirts of the village for grazing the calves. On the holy banks of river Kalindi, there were graceful groves and gardens. There Balaram and Sri Krishna were playing hide and seek, sometimes slipping and merrily running around. The belts around their waists were very beautiful. While playing, the chains around their necks and their anklets were emanating sweet sounds. On Balaram's body blue colored dress and on Sri Krishna's body yellow dress were shining. Those two brothers were wearing garlands and bracelets. Sometimes they were playing with other boys by throwing things at each other and sometimes they were playing on their flutes. Some cowherd boys were running, imitating the jingling noise of the bracelets with their mouths, along with them the two brothers, Ram and Shyam were running imitating birds and were adding to the elegance. They were wearing peacock feathers and flowers on their heads.

King! One day, amidst the calves they were grazing, the demon Vatsasur, who was sent by Kamsa, came in the form of a calf and joined the herd. Sri Krishna came to know about this. That demon was running among the Gopa boys with tail raised. All of a sudden it came and attacked Sri Krishna's shoulders with its hind legs. Other Gopa boys ran away but Sri Krishna caught hold of both the calve's legs, spun it around, and smashed it on the ground. After this Sri Hari picked it up and smashed against a wood apple tree. The demon died instantly. By this banging, the huge tree not only fell to the ground but also pulled down many other trees. An amazing thing happened. All the cowherd boys commended Sri Krishna. Devas standing in the sky hailed this victory and showered flowers. That demon turned into immense brightness and merged into Sri Krishna.

Bahulashwa asks:- Sage! This is a very surprising incident. Please tell who was the sacred person who came in the form of Vatsasur and merged into the Complete(paripoornatam) Lord Sri Krishna.

Sri Narada says:- King! Mura had a son, who was a great demon by the name of 'Prameel'. He had defeated all Devas in a battle. Once he came to the abode of sage Vasishta. There he saw The sage's Kamadhenu (cow which yields milk for oblation) named Nandhini. Intending to obtain Nadhini he came to the hermitage of Vasishta in the form of a Brahmana and started begging for the cow. The great sage was divine eyed, even when he knew everything, he did not say anything. Then the cow herself said thus

Sri Nandhini said:- Wicked one! You are Mura's son, a demon but still, you have come in a Brahmana's guise to steal a cow belonging to sages, hence you become a calf.

Sri Narada says:- King! Just as Nandhini said thus, the son of Mura became a big calf. Then he went around the sage and the cow and prostrating before them and pleaded with then to save him.

Cow said:- Big demon! At the end of Dwapara yuga, when you enter into the herd of calves you will get salvation.

Sri Narada says:- Because of the curse and the boon the demon Vatsasur merged into the Complete Lord Sri Krishna. There is no room for surprise in this.
