Description of the good fortune of the maidens of Pulinda who reincarnated as Gopis
Sri Narada says:- Now I will describe the women of 'Pulind' caste (tribals and hunters) who attained the Gopi-bhava. This narration will steal all the sins, will give sanctity, and increase the feeling of devotion.
In the forest of Vindhyachal,
some people of Pulind caste were living. They were fierce warriors and stole
only the king's wealth. They never stole anything belonging to the poor. The
powerful king of Vindhyadesh, being enraged encircled all the Pulindas with an
akshouhini army (army consisting of more than two lakh soldiers). Those
Pulindas also waged war with the King's army for many days using weapons such
as swords, spears, forks, and shooting arrows. Sensing defeat, they sent a
letter to the king of Yadavas, Kamsa. Then, by the order of Kamsa, the powerful
demon Pralamb came there. His body was two yojanas tall. The color of his body
was black like that of the clouds. That demon had a crown on his head and was
wearing ear drops and a garland of snakes around his neck. He had golden
chainlets on his legs and carrying mace that demon was looking similar to Kaal
(Death). His tongue was hanging out of his mouth and the sight of him was
extremely terrifying. He was throwing huge mountains of rocks, pulling out
large trees, and throwing them at the enemies. The whole earth was trembling by
the stamping of the feet of that war-mongering demon. Being scared at the very
sight of that demon, the king of Vindhya was defeated and he fled away from the
battleground just like an elephant that runs away at the sight of a lion. Then
demon Pralamb accompanied by all the Pulinds returned to Mathura.
Oho! How fortunate are these Pulind girls to attain the Lotus
feet of Sri Krishna, in an exceptional manner which are unattainable even by
the Devatas. Those who have unshakeable devotion towards the nectar of the
lotus feet of Bhagawan, they will not desire the position of Brahma or Mahendra
or the permanent position of an emperor, or the lordship of paatal-lok, or
yogasidhi or moksha. In reality, the only source of happiness, that is devoid
of expectations is the devotion of the great sages, who possess deep humility,
who are detached from the fruits of their deeds, and who are eternally dwelling
in intense devotion towards the lotus feet of Sri Hari, and who are the Lord's
very own kin. Everything else that is deemed by others as happiness is not
devoid of expectations.
