Garga Bhagavatham : Giriraj Khanda - Chapter 4
Praise of Lord Sri Krishna by Indra and Abhishek (showering holy water) of Sri Krishna by the cow, Surabhi and the elephant, Iravata.
Sri Narada says:- King! Upon losing his pride, Indra along with other Devatas came
to the Govardhan mountain, and paying respects to Sri Krishna in privacy told
HIM thus.
Indra said:- You are the God of
all Gods, capable of everything, Complete God, Primordial Male, Best of all the
Best Males, Beyond Maya, and Paratpar Sri Hari. Lord of heaven, Protector of
the universe, Please save me, save me. You are The God who took ten
avatars(incarnations) to save religions, cows, and the Vedas. Now also You, the
complete God, have appeared to slay demon kings like Kamsa and others. By your
Maya, whose mind is influenced, who is frantically influenced by pride and is
the cause of disregard towards You, I am the same Indra, the culprit standing
in front of You. Dyupathe! Just like a father forgives his son's misdeeds, in
the same please forgive my transgression. Lord of Lords! One in whom the
Universe exists! Please be kind to me. Govind, who lifted the Govardhan, my
salutations to You. Head of all Gopalas, Consort of all gopis, and the creator
of Giriraj, my salutations to You. Storehouse of kindness and God of the
universe, the giver of prosperity to the world and the residence of the
universe, my salutations to you Paramatma. He, who attracts the whole world and
the One who humbles the heart of even Kamadev, that Lord of Sri Radha, the daughter
of Vrishabhanu, the shining light of the clan of Nandraj, Complete God Sri
Krishna my salutations to you. Lord of innumerable universes, Supreme Lord of
Golokdham and the one who lives with Balaram, to You Sri Krishna many many
salutations.
Sri Narada says:- Those who recite these praises by Indra every morning,
they will be blessed with all goodness of life and there will be no fear of any
difficulties. Praising Baghawan Sri Hari in this manner, Indra along with all
other Devatas paid obeisance to HIM with folded hands. After this, the cow,
Surabhi who was generated out of Ksheersagar(ocean of milk) came to the serene
Govardhan mountain and bathed Sri Krishna with its lactation. Then the reeling
Airavat elephant bathed Sri Krishna with water of Ganga by filling its four
trunks with water. Then feeling very happy, the entire retinue of Devas,
demigods, along with godly saints chanted Vedas and raining flowers on Sri
Hari, continued praising HIM.
King! After the bathing of Sri Krishna
was over that great mountain Govardhan, being overwhelmed with happiness
started flowing in all directions. Then Baghwan being glad placed His
lotus-like palm on him. King! on that mountain the impression of Baghawan's
hand is visible even today. That water became the holy land that washes away
all sins of humans. His footprint is also present there. Mythil! Reminisce of
that holy land where the palm's impression is there and the impression of His
feet also is formed. Mythil! At the same place, Surabhi Devi's footprints are
can be seen. Where the water of Akash Ganga fell for bathing Sri Krishna, from
that place 'Manasi Ganga' appeared, which will wash away all sins. King of
Kings! The lactation of Surabhi with which Govind was bathed became
'Govindkund', which is the holiest water that will clear away all sins.
Sometimes the flavor of milk will emerge from that water. By bathing in that
water humans will reach the abode of Govind. In this manner doing parikrama
around Sri Hari and worshipping Him reverentially Indra and other Devatas
hailing His victory and showering flowers, happily returned to swargalok.
Rajendra! whoever listens to this story of Sri Krishna's bathing gets more
sanctified than bathing after ten Ashwamedha Yagnas. Then, he can attain the
lotus feet of Sri Krishna.
