The slaying of Keshi

Sri Narada says :- King of Mithila ! Then, the strong and intoxicated great demon, Keshi took the form of a horse and went to the serene Vrindavan. He began roaring and thundering like the clouds. The vibrations created by his thundering feet shook and uprooted the large trees. By the shaking of his tail, the clouds in the sky were also scattered. Oh, King of Mithila! his speed was great. Seeing him, the entire Gopa community was scared and all of them surrendered to Sri Krishna. The Lord who destroys sins and those who are the cause of sins, spoke reassuringly, "Do not be afraid!" He tied His upper clothing around His waist and got into the act of slaying the demon. That powerful demon attacked Sri Hari with his hind legs roaring so loud that the sound reverberated in the entire skies. Then just as the wind blows away a lotus, in the same manner, Sri Krishna caught hold of the demon's legs and with His strong arms swirled the demon in the air and cast him away to a distance of one yojana. Enraged by this, the demon came back and attacked Sri Krishna with his tail. King! Then Sri Krishna caught him by the tail and twirled him in the air several times and threw him to a distance of one hundred yojanas into the sky.

Upon falling from the sky, the demon was shaken to the core. Still, he stood up and thundered like the clouds. The demon shook the entire universe with his strength and shook his tail in the sky repeatedly. He galloped towards Sri Krishna. In the process, the earth was cracking by the force of his hooves. Sri Krishna punched demon Keshi powerfully and as a result, the demon fainted for some time. Then the demon recovered and caught hold of Sri Krishna's neck with his mouth and carried Him to a distance of one lakh yojanas in the sky. A fierce battle took place between them in the sky which went on throughout the afternoon. The demon attacked Sri Hari with his legs, teeth, manes, neck, tail, and sharp hooves. Then Sri Krishna caught hold of the demon with both His hands and began swirling him here and there and just as if a child throws a small kettle, He threw down the demon to the earth from the sky. Then Lord Sri Hari inserted His hand into the mouth of the demon. His divine hand reached the stomach of the demon and it grew in size like an uncontrollable disease, As a result, the great demon started to lose his life and he began vomiting blood. His stomach exploded and he lost his life. After the demon lost his life, he emerged from the body of the horse and attained a divine form with a crown, earrings, and other jewelry. He paid salutations to Sri Krishna with folded hands.

Kumud said:- Madhav! I am a servant of Indra and my name is Kumud. I was very bright, handsome, and brave, I used to hold a canopy for Indra. Long ago, because of the killing of Vrithrasur, the Lord of Heaven conducted a ritual known as Ahwamedha Yajna to appease the sin of incurred killing of the brahmin, Vrithrasur. The color of the sacrficial horse was white. Its ears were black and it could run at the speed of one's mind. I was tempted to ride on that horse. Being tempted in this manner I stole that horse and rode away to the other world. Then the guards caught me and dragged me to the king of Gods Indra. Lord Indra while cursing me said "Wicked-minded one! Become a demon. On the earth, you will have the body of a horse for a period of two ages (yugas). My Lord! Today by your divine touch, I have been relieved of that curse. God! now make me your servant. My soul is now attached to your lotus feet. You are the sole savior of all universes, my obeisances to You Bhagawan, Sri Hari.

Sri Narada says:-  King! Lord of Mithila! saying this and circumambulating around Sri Krishna, Kumud climbed onto a bright divine vehicle and flew away to heaven.
