Garga Bhagavatham : Giriraj Khanda - Chapter 5

<< Prev     Giriraj-khanda    Next>>

The debate among the Gopas about the identity of Sri Krishna and pacification by Sri Nanda and Sri Vrishabhanuvar.

Sri Narada says:- Once all gopas and gopis after witnessing the supernatural achievement of the son of Nand went to Nand along with Yashoda and asked this.

Gopas said:- Oh prosperous King of gopas! In your clan, no such boy was ever born, who could lift a mountain. You, yourself can not lift even a stone and hold it for seven days. How can a seven-year-old boy lift such a huge mountain Giriraj and hold it in his hand? Because of this, doubt arises about your son, who is so strong. Just like an elephant lifts a lotus and like a boy lifts a bit of cow dung in the same manner this boy playfully lifted Giriraj with one hand.

Yashoda! You are fair complexioned, and Sri Nand you have the complexion of golden brightness, but how was this dark-complexioned boy born to you? This boy's looks and color are different from that of those in this clan. Sri Balaram is also different but his difference has no-fault because he was born in Chandravamsh. If you do not tell the truth, we will outcast you from our community. Hence tell us, how his origin took place in the gopa clan? If you do not tell there will be a fight amongst us!

Sri Narada says:- Listening to the gopas Yashoda trembled with fear, but Nandraj told the gopas who were seething in anger, thus.

Sri Nand said:- Gopas! I will honestly tell you the words told by Sri Garga, by which your worries and sadness will be cleared quickly. Sri Garga told me thus, "Firstly listen to the meaning of the word 'Krishna', Ka is indicative of Kamalakanth (attraction of lotus), Ru is indicative of Ram, Sh is part of the name Vishnu, who is the resident of Shwetadweep and the Lord of sixty rich qualities, A is symptomatic of the Akshar purusha who can swallow even fire. And in the end, the two dots called 'Visarga' represents the two sages 'Nara' and 'Narayana'. The real Krishna is the one who has all these six elements within Him. This is the reason why this boy is named Krishna. According to the yugas(ages) His color was 'SHUKLA'(bright) in Sathya yuga, in Tretha yuga it was 'RAKTHA'(Red) and in Dwapara yuga it was 'PEETHA'(yellow). At this time, at the end of Dwapara yuga and onset of Kali-yuga, this boy has got the form of 'Krishna' (dark), because of this reason this boy is famous by the name of 'Krishna'. The five senses along with the three types of conscience (heart, wisdom, and mind) are called collectively called 'eight vasus'(wealth givers). The controlling Gods of these are also called by the same name. Being inside all the eight Vasus Sri Krishnadev himself moves everything and that is why He is called 'Vaasudev'

HE is the husband of the daughter of Vrishbanu, Radha who was born in the palace of Keerthi and that is the reason He is also called 'Radha Pathi'. This real Paripoornatam Bhagawan Sri Krishna is the Lord of innumerable universes and even though He is present everywhere, He is residing in Golokdham in His original form. Nand! the same Bhagawan has appeared in your house, in the form of your son for relieving the burden on this earth, to slay the demons like Kamsa and others, and also to protect His devotees. This boy has so many names that are unknown to even the Vedas and according to His Leelas, will get many more famous names. Hence do not be surprised or shocked by any of His singularly prodigious deeds."

Gopas! I never doubted the words of Sri Garga, because in this earth the sentences of Vedas and the sayings of Brahmanas are always the truth.

Gopas said:- If the great sage Gargacharya had come to your house then why did you not invite relatives and friends for the naming ceremony? Silently in your own house, you performed the naming ceremony. Is this your good practice of celebrating silently in your own house?

Sri Narada says:- King! Saying this, the gopas angrily left NandMandir and went to see Vrishabanuvar. Though Vrishbanuvar was a good friend of Nandraj, the gopas went to him encouraged by the fact that he belonged to their own caste.

Gopas said:- Oh Vrishabanuvar! You are the most important one in our caste and have a great heart. Hence, Leader of gopas! Please sever Nandraj from our caste.

Vrishabanuvar said:- What is the fault of Nandraj, because of which I should outcast him? Nandraj is liked by all the Gopas, he is the crown of our caste and he is my best friend also.

Gopas said:- King! Wisest! If you do not leave Nandraj, then all of us, people of Vraj will leave you. The girl in your house has grown up and become eligible for marriage and you being the leader of our community have become intoxicated with wealth and richness. Until now you have not handed her in marriage to a suitable bridegroom. Because of this sins are piled upon you. Wise King! From today we will consider you as an outcast and separate you from us, or else leave Nandraj, leave him.

Vrishabanuvar said:- Gopas! With singlemindedness, I will tell the words of SriGarg by which your worries and sadness will go away quickly. He said, "Lord of innumerable universes, Lord of the world, Paratpar Bhagawan Sri Krishna has appeared in the house of Nand as a boy. There is no better groom than Him for Sri Radha. At the request of Sri Brahma, to relieve the burden on this earth, and to slay Kamsa and other evil ones, Sri Krishna's appearance has taken place on this earth. In Golok, His queen whose name is Sri Radha has taken birth in your house as your daughter. You do not know that divine Goddess. I will not conduct their marriage. Their marriage will take place on the banks of Yamuna, in Bhandeeravan. Near Vrindavan, in a beautiful and isolated place, Sri Brahma Himself will come and conduct the marriage of Sri Radha and Sri Krishna. Hence, Superior Gopa! Please consider Sri Radha as half the form of the Crown of the universe Paramatma Sri Kthisna and the Royal Queen of Golokdham. All of you Gopas also have descended on to thif earth from Golok. In the same way, all the Gopis and cows have come to Gokul from Golok by the wish of Sri Radha." Since Gargacharya left after telling this, I have no doubt or worry about Sri Radha. On this earth, the words of Brahmanas and the sayings of Vedas are always the truth. Gopas! I have told you all this secret, what else do you want to hear?
