Garga Bhagavatham : Giriraj Khanda - Chapter 11
A siddha(realized person) describes his past life and then ascends to Golokdham in a magnificent chariot
Sri Narada says:- King! Listening to the words of Sidhdh, the brahmana was
astonished. Learning the greatness of Giriraj, he questioned Sidhdh.
Brahmana asked:- Great One! Now you have obtained a divine form. But who were you
in your previous birth, and what sin had you committed?
Sidhdh said:- In my previous birth
I was rich Vaishya (businessman). Being a rich Vaishya boy, I had the habit of
gambling from a very young age. I was thought to be most astute among the
wicked men and gamblers. Afterward, I got interested in a courtesan and started
going in a bad direction and got into the habit of getting drunk. Brahmana!
Because of this, I got a lot of reprimands from my parents and my wife. One day
I killed my parents by poisoning them and took my wife along with me, acting as
if I was taking her on an outing, and on the way I killed her with my sword. In
this way stealing all their wealth, I went southwards along with that
courtesan. This is the introduction of my wickedness. Going to the south, I
started mercilessly stealing robbing. One day I dumped that courtesan also into
a dark well. Intelligent One! In my obsession with wealth, I murdered many
Brahmanas. The number of killings of Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras might
have exceeded thousands. One day, with the intention of getting meat I went into
a forest to kill animals, there I stepped on a snake and it bit me and I
immediately died and the terrifying representatives of Yamaraj came and beat
me, the most sinful and merciless killer, with maces tied me up and dragged me
to hell. Considering me as most cruel, I was put into a pot of boiling liquid
and I had to be there for a period of one Manvantar. After that, I had to
undergo great suffering for a period of one Kalpa. Like this I had to get in
and out of eighty-four hells of Yama Raj, spending one year in each hell.
Afterward, according to my misdeeds, I had to be born out of the womb of a pig
ten times and out of the womb of a tiger ten times. Then I was born as a camel
and as a buffalo, a hundred times each. After this, I had to be in the womb of
a snake for a hundred births. Then some wicked men joined together and killed
me. Exalted one! After a lapse ten thousand years like this, I became an ugly
and monstrous demon, whom you just saw.
Once I entered the body of a shudra and went to Vraj. There on
the beautiful banks of river Yamuna, some attendants of the dark-colored Sri
Krishna got up and started beating me with their canes. After being dispensed
by them I ran out of Vraj and came here and from then onwards I was very hungry
and came near you with the intention of eating you. In the meanwhile, you hit
me with the stone of Giriraj. Sage! By the Grace of Sri Krishna Himself I have
been blessed.
Sri Narada says:- King! Just as he was telling this a huge chariot descended
from Golok. It was as bright as a thousand Suns and was having a thousand
horses. It had the sound of a thousand moving wheels. Lakhs of attendants were
enhancing its grace. It was decorated with chains and flippant bells which made
it most beautiful. Just as the Brahmana was observing, that chariot came to
fetch Sidhdh. Both the Brahmana and Sidhdh paid respects to the chariot. King
of Mithila! then that Sidhdh climbed on to the chariot and brightening the
universe reached Paratpar Sri Krishna lok, which was most attractive and dainty
with Nikunjas(thickets). That Brahmana also learned about the greatness of
Govardhan and came back to the king of all mountains Giriraj and did parikrama
(going around), paid obeisance to Giriraj, and returned to his home.
King! In this way, I have narrated to you the
very special Sri Giriraj canto, which is the giver of salvation. By listening
to this, even the sinful humans will not see the most punishing and fierce Yama
Raj, even in their dreams. Those who listen to the secrets of the pastimes of
the King of gopas, Sri Krishna along with the greatness of Giriraj, will enjoy
the pleasures of this earth like Indra and enjoy the peace in heaven like
Nandraj.
