The accounts of Maithili-roopa Gopis (Maidens of Mithila reincarnated as Gopis) ; Cheer-Haran leela (Pastime of stealing the clothes of the Gopis) and granting boon to the Gopis

Sri Narada says:- King! Lord of Mithila! Now listen to the episode of gopikas who were generated from Mithiladesh. Listening to this gives the benefits of bathing in Dashashwamedh waters and increases the feeling of devotion. The beautiful girls of Mithila, who were born in the houses of nine Nandas, by the grace of Sri Ramachandra were enamored by the darshan of the most attractive Son of Nanda. They observed 'Kathyayini Vrat'(austerities to please Devi Kathyayini) in the holy month of 'Margasheersh'. They made an idol of her with mud and began worshiping her very ardently. At the time of sunrise, all of them together, singing in praise of Bhagawan performed aarti (worship with flame) and bathed in the Yamuna river. Once, those girls of Vraj keeping all their dresses on the banks of the Yamuna, entered into the river and were playing by splashing water on each other. After daybreak, Bhagawan Shyamasundar came their and quickly took all their dresses and climbed onto a kadamba tree and was hiding there like a thief and sat quietly. Not finding their clothes, the Gopika girls were surprised, and seeing Shyamasundar sitting atop the tree felt embarrassed and started to giggle. Then, Sri Krishna who was sitting on the tree said, 'All of you come near the roots of the Kadamba tree and take your clothes or else I will not give them to you'. Then those gopikas, who were standing inside the cold water bowing their heads with shyness said thus.

Gopis said:- Attractive son of Nand! New swan of Gopala clan! Remover of great sufferings! We will obey your order. Even after being your maids, how can we be without our clothes? You are the thief who steals our clothes and also steals butter. Even after being born in Vraj, you are very amorous. Please return our clothes or else we will complain in the court of the king of Mathura about the injustice meted out by you.

Sri Bhagawan said:- Gopi girls, shining with lovely smiles! If you are my maids, then come near the roots of this kadamba tree and take your clothes. Or else I will take all your clothes with me to my house. Hence, without delay, do as per my instructions.

Sri Narada says:- King! Then all those gopis who live in Vraj shivering very much got out of the water and being undressed covered their private parts with their hands and suffering from the fierce chillness, took their clothes from Sri Krishna and covered their bodies. After that, they stood there looking at Sri Krishna with shy eyes. Understanding their feelings of great love and with a mild smile looking at them, Sri Krishna told thus.

Sri Bhagawan said:- Gopi girls! The Kathyayini vow that all of you performed in the month of Margasheersh to attain me will be certainly fulfilled, there is no doubt about this. The day after tomorrow in the forest near the beautiful banks of Yamuna, I will perform Raas with you, which will be the fulfillment of your wish.

When the Supreme Sri Hari said this and left, then the girls went to their homes with great joy and happiness
