Gopis of the divine order
Sri Narada says:- King of Mithila!
Now listen about the episode of Gopis who were of Divine origin, which will
bless humans with all the four virtues and is a means of increasing their
devotion.
There was a Gopa in Malavadesh whose name was
Divaspati. He had one thousand wives. He was very rich and possessed good moral
values. Once he came to Mathura on a pilgrimage. On arrival learning about the
lord of Vraj, King Nand, he came to Gokul to meet him. Upon meeting king Nand
and seeing the beauty of Vrindavan, noble minded Divaspati, with the permission
of king Nand resided there itself. He encircled two yojanas of land and built a
dwelling along with a shelter for his cows. King! Living there with all his
family and relatives, he got great happiness. At the behest of sage Deval, all
the very divine girls were born in the house of Divaspati, who was stunningly
bright as burning fire.
At some point in time those girls had darshan of
Sri Krishna and being captivated by Him, they undertook the most sacred vrat of
Maagha month, with the intention of attaining Sri Krishna. At sunrise, those
girls of Vraj would bathe early in the morning and being lovelorn, they would
sing the leelas of Sri Krishna in high pitched voices. Sri Krishna, being
pleased told them, 'You ask for any boon'. Then with folded hands and paying
obeisances to the Paramatma, they told Him slowly.
Gopis said:- Lord! You are
unattainable to even the greatest of yogis. You are God of all and the reason
of all reasons. You are the bearer of the flute. Your body attracts even the
heart of Manmatha. We wish for you to always be in front of our eyes.
King! Then the Supreme Lord Sri Hari granted
their wish saying "So be it" and eternally unveiled Himself to them.
May the Supreme Lord, who delivered those gopis with His darshan, always reside
in your heart and in remain in front of your eyes and stay in the minds of
those who call Him. He, who wears a yellow cloth around His waist, on whose
head a crown of the peacock feather shines, whose neck is tilted, in whose
hand, flute and cane remain and in whose ears gem-studded ear drops shine, I
sing in praise of that dark Natavar Sri Hari. The Supreme God Sri Hari is
attainable easily by pure devotion. Truly, the Gopis are proof of this. They
never thought of Saankhyata or practicing yoga. By unalloyed devotion, they
merged with the form of Bhagawan.
